livermore, santa rosa at 43 after a morning low of 23 degrees. tonight, overnight, we are talking about low in the 20s away from the ocean into our inland areas. 23 in santa rose a25 in san jose and that should is be a record. the lows 30s in oakland should be a record. again, swre -- we have a freeze warning in effect. this is a prolonged cold snap. we will it will you when it is going toend and that is straight ahead. >> thank you. a fire destroyed a mobile home in mountain view this morning. firefighters got the call at 5:00 a.m. when they got to the sierra mobile home park the trailer was completely engulfed in flames. one person inside of the mobile home got out safely and no other homes were damaged. the cause is under investigation. in san jose more than a dozen people at the hilton hotel say a chemical odor made them sick just before 11:00

this morning. people on the 18th floor complained about irritated eyes. phaz mat crews and firefighters were call inside to check it out. >> when we have a building it this large where you have 18 floors to control and trying to keep people protected so we are not letting people back into the scene it can be problematic. >> whatever was making people sick it cleared out on its own. escalating violence it in oakland has people asking the city to call in the national guard. on friday four people were shot to death on city streets and yesterday, the city officials canned the mayor to consider declare -- officials asked the mayor to considered declaring an emergency for the city. we will have more on that at 8:00 tonight. residents of newtown, connecticut are debating the future of sandy hook elementary school. the site of last month's mass shooting that killed 20 children and 6 adults is still

a crime scene. students and teachers are holding classes at a school in a neighboring town. today the discussion was whether or not to reopen the school or tear it down. >> my 3-year-old thinks his school is broken and we are going to fix it. >> my best memories were there. and i think that children in the future, deserve to experience the same beautiful memories that i did. >> they plan to meet privately with victim's families to get their perspective on the school's future. across the country gun sales are on the rise. at a bay area gun show this weekend lines were long and opinions were set when it comes to stricter gun laws. cbs 5 reporter shows us that does not mean lawmakers are not gearing up for a fight. >> reporter: it has been a weekend of unprecedented attendance at the crossroads of the west gun show. >> it looks like the current

political climate created an artificial demand. >> thousands of people waited in long lines to buy guns and accessories. >> let's get ourselves over here and see what is there before they change any of those laws. >> reporter: lawmakers are considering stricter gun and ammunition laws after last year's mass shooting. >> i think it is a knee-jerk reaction for politics who never let a crisis go to waste. >> california has the most restrictive gun laws in the nation. nobody was able to walk away with a new gun from the show today that is because here in cal cal there is a 10-day waiting period -- california there is a 10-day waiting period and a background check. >> reporter: and people want to expand our laws nationwide. it was discussed on cbs 5 on sunday morning. >> all i am asking in congress and supporting is asks the rest of the country to follow what cal cal already bans that is assault weapons and magazines with capacity beyond 10 rounds. so, people in california will not be effected we just think the rest of the country should

have to have that same type of law. >> not everyone agrees with the liberal agenda. >> reporter: the owner holds gun shows in four states. and does not want to see the nation go the way of the golden state. >> it is, you know, i certainly would not endorse it because it is more difficult to do business. >> reporter: he is from arkansas. >> how do you think it would go over? >> it wouldn't. i think people are going to fight for their second amendment rights. >> as the fight in congress begins. >> and we talk about reasonable gun safety measures i have been a big supporter of that and i have been working with my freshman colleagues to take measures to protect the 2nd amendment. >> reporter: in daley city, back to you. >> gun violence will be a major focus in washington this week with the vice president set to deliver his plan to the president on tuesday. today's cold temperatures did not keep folks from getting

hunting challenge kicked off this weekend. that's right, almost 8-hundred people are trying to catch as many snakes as they can.. they have a month to do it.. th in florida, the first ever python hunting challenge kicked off. almost eightpeople are trying do catch as many snakes -- 800 people are trying to catch as many snakes as they can do it. they will win a prize and another prize will go to the person who catches the longest python. they are hoping to reduce the population. from snakes to sharks. the nhl season is no longer on ice. the players and owners settled their debates. san jose sharks fans were ready to give their team a warm welcome back.
